I’m currently a senior in high school, unfortunately I got a D in Calculus AB my second semester of my junior year. I had already taken 3 years of Math before Calculus AB, so i met my requirements:
Summer:Geometry-A/B
9th grade:Algebra 2/Trig- B/A
10th grade:Pre-Calculus-A/B
11th grade:Calculus AB-C/D(my only D)
Now that I’m a senior, I’m taking Calculus BC(I know I’ll pass) which will be my fourth year of Math. My question is whether or not I could still get accepted into UC Riverside, UC Irvine, or even Cal State Long Beach with that darn D. I’m really worried!

You’ll need to go to community college and retake calculus.
Colleges generally look at your sophomore and senior year grades, thats what i was told.
depends on the major, but a D would kill your gpa so explain ur situtation well maybe they’ll be lenient
no. the D is bringing down your GPA and the college will assume you cannot handle that level of work. or they will think you have gotten lazy or something like that
they mostly look at your junior year grades. they don’t care about freshman and sophmore. they probably won’t even look at those. all they will see is your big fat D.
you really should redo that course and get rid of the low grade
Especially if you live in the Long Beach area, the D should not keep you from acceptance at CSULB, especially if you bring up your math grades by retaking the class in which you received the D, and earning an A or B in it, which I think you are doing. It should also help if you do not indicate a math or science major on your application. You can just state that your major is “undeclared”.
The foregoing applies almost as much if you do not live in the Long Beach area and also applies almost as much to UCR.
UC Irvine is so competitive that you will need virtually straight A grades and high board scores for admission in any event.
Just in case, apply to UC Merced as a backup and, if you do not live in the Long Beach area, to your local CSU as a second backup.
If your record is otherwise outstanding and you bring up the D grade, they will not blackball you for it. If your total record is mediocre to start with, you have a problem in any event.
Good luck.
The D will drag down your GPA if you choose not to repeat the course. One D by itself will not torpedo your chance but it warrants an explanation. Whether you received the D due to medical/family emergency or sheer bad luck, be sure to offer an explanation in your application and talk about how you will rectify the situation.
