dont shave against the grain. shave in the direction the hair is growing. but with shaving this will eventually happen.

A few tips for a great shave:
1st: Exfoliate. Get an exfoliating facewash (nivea for MEN if you’re worried about it, but I use St. Ives apricot scrub) This frees up dead skin that may cause the hair to turn back on itself, and exposes more of the hair stub to be removed.

2nd: Warm up. Warm water opens your pores and softens the bristle of the hair, so it won’t be as painful to shave, and will result in smoother results.

3rd: When you shave, shave WITH the direction of the hair. If you absolutely must, you can go back over the area going the opposite direction (agains the grain) afterwards.

4th: Pat dry, don’t rub. Remove excess shaving cream with cold water to refresh your face and pores, and then gently tap the towel to blot the water away, rather than rub a rough cloth against your newly shorn dermis.

5th: Moisturize. Most “after-shave” gels contain alcohols which are drying and irritating to your skin, especially after you’ve just traumatized it with shaving. It’s not girly to look good, and a little facial moisturizer will improve skin tone and make your cheeks oh so soft and touchable.

I heard if you use some sort of astringent after you shave (be careful…it might burn…maybe wait a while) it opens the follicles and allows the hair to grow upright. I’ve never tried this but it could work!
