Rutgers is a superb university. You really can’t guestimate your chances until you get your ACT or SAT scores. If you are serious about Rutgers, take a prep course before taking the SAT. The 2 largest are Kaplan and Princeton Review – there are others.
Drop the community service clubs and pull up your GPA. Also, focus on extracurricular activities that will key into your proposed major. If you are going into science or math, join science and math related activities [Science Olympiad for example].
to be honest, there is no real way to know if you are going to make it to RU. I am a student here and I know people who were much worse off and still made it in. On the other hand, my valedictorian in hs got rejected from rutgers. My best suggestion is to make yourself well rounded and try to do well in school. If you can keep your grades above a B or better average you should be fine. Also, I know that rutgers looks for people who are well rounded and can still keep up their grades. Student leadership positions and clubs are good for the resume. Oh and btw, most rutgers students are NJ residents so they definitely like in-state kids.
